’To Summer Soulstice with Love’ was the well chosen theme of the very successful ball held by Cherry Lodge Cancer Care on Saturday 16th February 2019. Some 220 people gathered together in a red and white themed dining room at the Holiday Inn, Elstree to reflect upon and thank the Summer Soulstice crew for the continuous financial support they have given to Cherry Lodge Cancer Care since 2007.
The evening started with guests mingling and a chance to win a prize from the wonderful tombola organised by Annys and Kim. There were then a couple of speeches from Sarah Armitage, vice chair of Cherry Lodge’s Trustees, and Jamie Topham, Summer Soulstice organiser and vice chair, to remind us all of the caring and professional work done by Cherry Lodge and the wonderful music event that the Soulstice crew arrange every summer, which goes from strength to strength. The speeches also mentioned the burglary after last year’s Summer Soulstice event and thanked everyone from our local community for their kindness and generosity and other events put on to replace the funds lost. Truly humbling.
John Barnet then skilfully ran us through the auction of some attractive sports memorabilia to raise extra money. The musical entertainment for the evening commenced with a superb performance by Andy Abraham, whose enthusiasm and choice of renditions soon had the dance floor full. This was followed by lots more music from Soulstice DJs, who kept the dancing going until 1 am.
This was a wonderful evening, raising some £10,000 to help fund Cherry Lodge Cancer Care’s many services. We give special thanks to Tina and her volunteers, a further selection of photos and a report can be found on the Summer Soulstice website (www.summersoulstice.co.uk).
