Cherry Lodge Cancer Care sends hearty congratulations and huge thanks to Nick Martin and Leigh Barnett for taking part in The Swashbuckler Triathlon in the New Forest on 10th July 2022. They did so to raise money in memory of Nick’s sister, Suzy Bishop, who was a Cherry Lodge member. In Nick’s words: “Suzy fought valiantly against cancer for 5 years until she sadly passed away on 4th April 2022. Suzy was, and will continue to be a constant source of inspiration to us all, with her unwavering positivity, and beaming smile – a true ‘ray of sunshine’. I miss her so much.”
Nick and Leigh showed their athletic prowess by completing this very challenging event – a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike ride, and a half marathon (13.1 miles) – in a very impressive 6 hours and 50 minutes. To quote Nick: “We swam with jelly fish in the Beaulieu River, cycled through the New Forest dodging donkeys and horses, finishing with the most brutal of runs in the midday heat!”
The pair have also proved to be great fundraisers. By 28th July they had persuaded 109 supporters to donate a total of £4,500 (plus £935 Gift Aid) to help Cherry Lodge Cancer Care “continue to provide such important free support, guidance, and advice as Suzy received, for which I will always be grateful”. This is a hugely impressive total – thank you from Cherry Lodge to everyone who donated.
Nick’s fundraising page will stay open for a month after the event. Click here to access it and donate if you can.
