Heartfelt thanks to all Cherry Lodge Cancer Care volunteers were expressed on our website during national Volunteers’ Week 2023 at the beginning of June. This year, rather than holding a get together at our Centre, Howard House, in June, it was decided to hold a later, more sumptuous event – a delicious thank you tea at Old Fold Manor Golf Club on Tuesday 25th July.
The event was organised and hosted by CL Volunteer Coordinator, Yvonne. Also present were Margaret Clark, Chairman of the CL Trustees, and staff members Fiona, CL Cancer Information Nurse, and Tina, CL Administrator and Fundraising Events Coordinator, who both have their own loyal bands of volunteer helpers.
The tea was attended by a good cross section of volunteers, including receptionists, admin helpers, therapists, befrienders, fundraisers, drivers and shop helpers. Among those present were some who first volunteered for CL fairly recently, while others have been around for many years, back to when Cherry Lodge Cancer Care was called Barnet Cancer Care and was situated in a portakabin in the grounds of Barnet Hospital.
To underline the purpose of the event, Margaret gave a short but very apt speech of thanks. Without the help of Cherry Lodge’s many volunteers, it would be impossible for our charity to provide its much appreciated services and live up to its full name of Cherry Lodge Cancer Care – care is at the heart of everything we do.
