Sunday 7th July 2024 was the second time that QE Boys’ School, Barnet let Cherry Lodge Cancer Care use its fabulous pool for a fundraising event. When we held our Sponsored Swim in 2023 it was the hottest day of the year, something which could not be said about yesterday’s almost autumnal weather!
Although fewer people participated this year than last – perhaps due to the cold wet weather – those who did take part all excelled. With ages spanning nine decades, CL member Mike (aged 88), CL friend Wendy, CL therapist Gaynor, CL staff members Yvonne and Tina, and two determined children together swam no fewer than 199 (carefully counted) 25m lengths of the pool. We can, therefore, talk about the quality if not the quantity of our swimmers, who between them raised a staggering sponsorship total in excess of £2,000.
Tina had organised this event with her usual efficiency and the swimmers were all given a medal, water and some delicious fruit to make up for the calories expended. The pool offers a truly lovely view from the water and Cherry Lodge is most grateful to QE Boy’s School for allowing us to hold this very enjoyable event there. It goes without saying that everyone who participated in the swim and also all their sponsors are heartily thanked by Cherry Lodge for being such good ‘sports’!
