Every year, in October, Cherry Lodge Cancer Care sets up its pink tombola stall in The Spires Shopping Centre. The aim is to remind Barnet’s many shoppers that this is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, while also raising money to help Cherry Lodge continue to provide its many free information and support services.
This year’s event, held on Saturday 20th October 2018, was undoubtedly our best so far. It was a beautiful Autumn day, the stall was in a perfect position opposite the entrance to Waitrose, and the very long tombola table was laden with a huge variety of donated pink items (some 160 when the fun started!). The pink prizes included bottles of many different sorts, confectionery, soaps, candles, clothing, jewellery in pink see-through bags, bulbs and seeds, and some very appealing toys. The tombola, with three tickets for a pound, proved hugely popular, especially with the many children. Later in the day, it was good to welcome Cherry Lodge patron and local MP Theresa Villiers, who seemed happy with the little cuddly toy she won.
Thanks to all who donated so many attractive and interesting pink items, to the staff who organised the event, to the volunteers (a total of nine on the day) who gave their time to help, and to the very enthusiastic individuals, young and old, who, by buying tickets, supported Cherry Lodge and helped raise over £400.
