The nurses at Cherry Lodge Cancer Care are pleased to announce that the Move4U exercise programme is running again. This individually tailored programme, run under the auspices of the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation and NHS North Central London cancer charities, has proved very beneficial to Cherry Lodge members in the past and you are urged to consider it. Please speak to Kirsty or Fiona if you would like to take part.
What is Move4U?
The NCL Move4You programme is a 12-session guided physical activity programme for adults who have had a cancer diagnosis in the last five years. Move4You provides ongoing support for 12 months, led by specialist activity instructors. Move4You is tailored to each individual, supporting people of all abilities to engage with a variety of activities to help them move more before, during and after treatment.
Benefits
The programme helps optimise a patient’s health outcomes before, during and after cancer treatment. Research shows that there are many benefits of physical activity at all stages of the cancer pathway including: reduced fatigue and pain; increased flexibility; improved mood, general fitness and bone health; a reduced risk of osteoporosis; and maintaining a healthy weight.
Eligibility
Move4U is open to any individual aged 18+ who has had a cancer diagnosis in the last five years and who lives in or has access to healthcare in Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey or Islington.
Current arrangements
Due to COVID-19, sessions are usually carried out virtually – either one to one or as a group. There is also the option of face-face or telephone for people who can’t access the sessions virtually.
Informal community coffee mornings are also being hosted when permissible and safe. Participants have found these gatherings invaluable during COVID-19 for sharing their experiences and providing peer to peer support and encouragement.
