The midsummer lunchtime fundraising event put on by Cherry Lodge Cancer Care at Old Fold Manor Golf Club on Wednesday 28th June 2018 was an excellent opportunity for local ladies to lunch with friends while raising money for Cherry Lodge’s many free services for people affected by cancer.
It was a beautiful sunny day and the venue looked splendid – as did the ladies in their summer outfits. On arrival, guests were served complimentary drinks in the bar, where they had a good chance to chat before going through for lunch. As to be expected at this venue, the seasonal two-course meal was delicious. During lunch, the ladies were very pleasantly entertained by pianist and singer Paul Jaffa (see photo 4, below). Paul is well known in the area as Director of Music at West Lodge Park Hotel, Hadley Wood.
Our guest speaker was James Higgs, Toastmaster and Master of Ceremonies (shown having a relaxed chat in photo 2). James’s topic was ‘In the Footsteps of a Wedding Toastmaster’ and it was not surprising that he had plenty of interesting and entertaining anecdotes to share. James also told us how he had moved into this line of work, which includes directing proceedings at corporate events, formal balls and sporting occasions as well as at weddings.
A warm thank you to both Paul and James (who gave their services free of charge) was given by Fiona Kiddle, Cherry Lodge’s Macmillan Cancer Information Nurse Specialist. Fiona also thanked everyone involved in putting on this event, with a special mention to volunteer Sue Wood for organising the raffle.
