Now that more people are feeling confident enough to attend a well organised indoor event, Tina and her team of Cherry Lodge Cancer Care fundraisers suggested it was time to return to Old Fold Manor Golf Club for a Ladies Afternoon Tea with a speaker. This idea proved very popular and the event was held on Tuesday 24th May 2022, with professional photographer and musician Gary Italiaander as guest speaker. More than 50 people attended and an impressive £960 was raised to help fund CL’s cancer information and support services.
A good time was had by all. This was a great opportunity for people to catch up with old friends and meet other like-minded people, all wanting to enjoy themselves while helping raise funds for Cherry Lodge. The tea was delicious and beautifully presented, as always at Old Fold Manor Golf Club. The raffle, featuring a selection of donated prizes, attracted a lot of interest (and a substantial sum from ticket sales).
The highlight of the afternoon, however, was guest speaker Gary Italiaander. Gary is a very accomplished and entertaining speaker, whose thirty years’ experience of photographing celebrities and other fascinating individuals has provided him with a wealth of outstanding images and anecdotes. He is also a talented musician, who studied at the London College of Music and qualified as a music teacher before becoming a professional photographer. Gary first learned the harmonica as a child and still performs on it with great skill and enthusiasm – as he was very happy to demonstrate to his attentive Cherry Lodge audience. Gary was also a personal friend of legendary harmonica player Larry Adler and wrote the very interesting book: “Reflections: A Tribute to Larry Adler – Harmonica Genius”.
