Cherry Lodge is benefiting once again from the proceeds of a football fixture between Herts XI and a team of Spurs Legends. Organised by John Murphy of Finchpalm, this popular annual sporting event took place on Friday 22nd July 2016 at Boreham Wood FC, with proceeds being shared by Cherry Lodge Cancer Care and Borehamwood Youth FC.
As well as famous players on the field, there were other ‘Legends’ present, including Ray Clemence as guest manager and Graham Roberts, Paul Allen and Pat Jennings on the sidelines. The Herts team was managed by John Pratt and included sports presenter Ian (‘Moose’) Abrahams.
It was an enjoyable and exciting game, with the result in the balance to the very end. In the 90th minute, with the score at 2 apiece, Darren Anderton scored his second goal of the evening. Then, in extra time, Anderton completed his hat-trick to take the final score to 4-2 to Spurs Legends. A full report of the game can be seen on the Tottenham Hotspur website, together with photos by Martin Taylor (including photos 4 to 8 reproduced below). The other Legends’ goal was a penalty by Mark Gower. The Herts goals were scored by Dean Shuttleworth and Matt Tilbury.
JustGiving pages linked to this event have been set up by Herts XI team members Ricky Brown (with Dean Shuttleworth), Steve Weldon and Matthew Tilbury. These pages will stay open for a month after the event, so if you enjoyed the evening, please consider making a donation to help them support our very good cause.
