The Cherry Lodge Autumn Quiz, held on 19th September 2015, was indeed the fun event it promised to be. The BBC (Brilliant Barnet Cleverclogs) were out in force and eagerly pitted their wits against each other. With pencils at the ready, distracted only by the sharp intakes of breath, one could hear a pin drop, not least because participants had been asked to switch off their mobile phones to prevent possible irregularities!
Questions included having to guess the companies behind famous advertising slogans, recognising Spitting Images, “famous Willies”, famous cats, authors from both sides of the ocean, identifying TV shows, as well as a completely random Pot Luck set of conundrums. This particular scribe had no difficulty with any of the answers but the brain was so slow that the next round had already ended before pen had been put to paper, so no competition there.
At 8.30 pm fish and chips (and a very tasty vegetarian option) were delivered by Seafresh from Southgate, by which time folk were more than ready to eat, having seriously exercised their brains. People were very generous when buying raffle tickets and the winner was clearly delighted (see photo 5, below)!
Cherry Lodge is very fortunate to have the support of David, Maureen and Dawn Southon, the quiz family. They clearly enjoy these events, gathering interesting and fun topics and giving everybody a good time. The winning table belonged to Mary Bracken and family (see photo 6). Well done.
Thanks to the baker of the gorgeous cakes and to the bunch of willing helpers!
