Events Programme
Cherry Lodge Cancer Care fundraisers work hard to put on an interesting and varied programme of events. Coming up next is A Taste of the Middle East at the Landsby on Monday 11th November 2024.
On this page of the website you can see our events programme presented in two different ways. Use the drop-down menu immediately below this text to select either ‘Agenda’ (an interactive list with dates, which is the default option) or ‘Month’ (an interactive calendar that shows the planned events month by month). Each of these options provides an overview of our scheduled events.
You can find out more detailed information about an event in the following ways. If you are using the Agenda view, click on an event to see a display box and a Read More button to take you to the event page, where you will find full details including a map. If you are using the Monthly Calendar, hover your cursor over an event date to see a display box and then click to go to the event page.
This annual Christmas Shopping and Lunch event for ladies at the Penridge Suite (470 Bowes Road, London N11 1NL) is a great way to start the festive season!

The Cherry Lodge Cancer Care annual ‘Lights of Love’ ceremony offers an opportunity for people to come together to remember a loved one, to mark a special occasion, to share a token of love, or simply to enjoy the company of others. Attendance is by invitation only.
Before the event, people are invited to make a donation to Cherry Lodge Cancer Care to sponsor a symbolic light on the bandstand at The Spires Shopping Centre in Barnet. Everyone on the Cherry Lodge mailing list should have received a donation form along with their Autumn Newsletter. If you haven’t received a form, please contact Tina on 020 8441 7000 or email tina@cherrylodgecancercare.org.uk.
On receipt of your donation, Cherry Lodge will send you a dedication card for each person you named plus an invitation to attend the lighting ceremony.
This year’s event will be held on Sunday 8th December 2019 starting at 4.30pm. The lights on the bandstand will be switched on, the Cherry Lodge Singers will be singing, readings will be given, names of people to be remembered will be read out, and there will be plenty of time to enjoy refreshments and chat with old and new friends.
The bandstand will be illuminated every day until January.
As in previous years, Barnet schoolchildren are fundraising for Cherry Lodge Cancer Care by singing carols and other festive music in The Spires Shopping Centre. Please come along to listen to the children’s singing and help them raise lots of money to help fund Cherry Lodge’s many information and support services for people affected by cancer.

Notice of cancellation
Cherry Lodge chairman, Dr Margaret Clark, in discussion with relevant staff and a Trustee, has reluctantly decided that the Cherry Lodge Barn Dance due to be held this Saturday, 14th March 2020 cannot take place. The possible risk from coronavirus to members of the public is considered too great.
Refunds
If you have paid for tickets, please contact Tina on 020 8441 7000 or email tina@cherrylodgecancercare.org.uk and give her your bank account details. This will enable Cherry Lodge to refund you immediately.
Thank you for your support
Thank you and apologies to everyone involved in the arrangements for our Barn Dance, which has been cancelled due to the outbreak of coronavirus. Thank you also to everyone who had hoped to support Cherry Lodge by attending what would have been a very lively event. We look forward to welcoming you at other events in the future.
Cherry Lodge Cancer Care has cancelled this event to reduce our supporters’ risk of possible exposure to the coronavirus.
Please show your support for Cherry Lodge Cancer Care by coming to our Easter Craft Fair, to be held on Saturday 4th April 2020 – the weekend before Easter. The event will take place in St James Church, 71 East Barnet Road, New Barnet, EN4 8RN.
Come and enjoy the Easter theme, including a chocolate egg hunt and a giant Easter Bunny to entertain the children. There will also be a Kids’ Corner featuring craft activities and face painting. The fair will open with a performance by a local school choir.
The many stalls will be offering a wide range of items, providing an excellent opportunity to treat yourself or to buy gifts for family and friends. You will find beautiful hand-crafted items to wear or for the home as well as a tempting selection of plants. As always, our well stocked tombola stalls will provide a bit of fun as well as a chance to win some great prizes. Refreshments will be available at the Fair cafe, staffed by Cherry Lodge volunteers.
Cherry Lodge Cancer Care has cancelled this event due to the coronavirus epidemic. Cherry Lodge thanks Dawn, her staff and customers for having supported us for many years and we send our best wishes in these difficult times.
Dawn Ledgard will be holding her next Clothes Sale at Hadley Wood on Monday 6h April 2020. Make a note of the date and come along to the Hadley Wood Association Centre to buy beautiful clothes for the new season.
Dawn’s twice-yearly sales offer ladies of all ages, shapes and sizes a very good value opportunity to buy from an extensive range of beautiful designer clothing, jewellery and accessories. Labels include Monari, Zele, Phool, Signature, H & O, Harvey, and lots more. All items are on sale at well below High Street prices and there are attractive special offers on multiple purchases.
As usual, the sale will be held at the Hadley Wood Association Centre (behind the Tennis Club). The venue is about 5 minutes from Hadley Wood station on foot. If you come by car, it is just 5 minutes from junction 24 on the M25 and there is free parking next to the tennis courts. Why not bring a friend and enjoy a coffee while you browse? As past customers know, buying here is much more convenient and less stressful than a trip into the West End. It is also much more enjoyable and reliable than buying online.
Donations of £1 at the door, plus commission on sales, will be given to Cherry Lodge Cancer Care to help fund much needed information and support services for people affected by cancer.
The Mayor’s ‘Money Can’t Buy’ Virtual Auction will be conducted online, safely away from the coronavirus.
The Mayor of Barnet’s 1920’s-themed Gala Dinner, scheduled for Saturday 25th April 2020, has been cancelled due to the coronavirus. All tickets had been sold and the event was expected to bring the current Mayor’s Appeal to a spectacular conclusion. This was not to be – and a major rethink was needed.
So the Mayor and her committee have come up with a solution – with your help they can steer disadvantage into advantage by turning this Gala Dinner into a virtual fundraising event online. In this way, they are still looking to meet their original Gala Dinner target to raise £10,000 for Cherry Lodge Cancer Care and Home-Start Barnet.
The Mayor and her committee are now asking Gala Dinner ticket holders to consider alternatives to simply asking for a refund (although this option is available, see foot of page). Note that the Mayor’s Virtual Auction is also open to people who haven’t previously bought Gala Dinner tickets.
Supporters might also like to enter the Mayor’s Virtual Raffle or make a donation to the Mayor’s Appeal (details below).
‘Money Can’t Buy’ Virtual Auction Draw
The Auction Draw will be held on the evening of 25th April 2020, when the Gala Dinner was to have taken place. An online video link will be set up to allow participants and spectators to remain safe in their own homes. For logistical reasons during the lockdown, the Auction Draw will be made by Cllr Caroline Stock (Mayor of Barnet). Speeches will be made by Clive Coleman (Legal Correspondent at the BBC), who was to have been the guest speaker at the Gala Dinner, and by James Kennedy (Chief Financial Officer at Middlesex University). A brochure for the evening will be distributed after the event.
To take part, Gala Dinner ticket holders are being asked to donate their original ticket price of £65 (for one chance) or £130 (for two chances) to win some novel prizes, including:
- Operate the machinery to open Tower Bridge.
- Enjoy lunch for two by invitation of Christopher Hayward, Sheriff of the City of London, with HM Judges at The Old Bailey.
- Fulfil childhood dreams with a private viewing of the Jubilee Line control tower and experience a simulator drive of the tube.
