Events Programme
Cherry Lodge Cancer Care fundraisers work hard to put on an interesting and varied programme of events. Coming up next is our annual Lights of Love ceremony on Sunday 24th November 2024.
On this page of the website you can see our events programme presented in two different ways. Use the drop-down menu immediately below this text to select either ‘Agenda’ (an interactive list with dates, which is the default option) or ‘Month’ (an interactive calendar that shows the planned events month by month). Each of these options provides an overview of our scheduled events.
You can find out more detailed information about an event in the following ways. If you are using the Agenda view, click on an event to see a display box and a Read More button to take you to the event page, where you will find full details including a map. If you are using the Monthly Calendar, hover your cursor over an event date to see a display box and then click to go to the event page.
On Saturday 17th January 2015 Barnet Band will be playing an exhilarating and entertaining programme of music to ‘Blow Away The Winter Blues’ – just the thing for what might otherwise prove to be a dismal January evening. Please come along to St James’s church in New Barnet to listen to Barnet’s Community Wind Band and help raise funds for Cherry Lodge. The ticket price of £10 includes interval refreshments. Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.
Make the most of this chance to get valuations for your antiques and collectables while also helping to raise money for local charities, including Cherry Lodge Cancer Care, Finchley Food Bank and Stephens House
This event, organised by Finchley WI, will take place on Sunday 8th March 2015 at Stephens House in East Finchley. Admission to the house, former home of Henry Stephens of Stephens ink fame, is free. Entrance to the Valuation Day event is £10 per person, entitling you to bring as many items as you like for valuation: china, jewellery, paintings, clocks, watches, gold, silver, toys, stamps, coins, etc. The experts from Bonningtons Auctioneers will be on hand to make valuations from 10.30 am to 2.30 pm and there is no need to book. Please note that furniture and other very large items cannot be accepted.
There will also be a Tombola Stall, Lucky Dip and Cakes and Crafts stall. If you are thinking of having a meal out, Sunday Lunch is available at Stephens House – please book directly with Stephens House on 0208 346 7812.
The 2015 Virgin London Marathon will take place on the streets of London on Sunday 26th April. This iconic marathon is a major event on the international sporting calendar and is also an important fundraising opportunity for Cherry Lodge Cancer Care and countless other charities, large and small.
Please show your support by sponsoring our runners as generously as you can. Our four runners – Paul Abbot-Williams, Stephen Fletcher, Andy Georgiou and Alan Stewart – will be making a huge physical effort on the day. The least the rest of us can do is to show our support for them and for Cherry Lodge. (Sadly, our fifth prospective runner, Paul Woodward, is unable to take part due to injury).
For information on how to sponsor our runners, please see the London Marathon page in the Recent Events section of our website, or contact Tina on 020 8441 7000 or e-mail tina@cherrylodgecancercare.org.uk.
Our runners would also appreciate your support on the day. Why not add Marathon to your diary for 26th April and make plans to go and cheer them on?
On Sunday 21st June 2015, Daniel and Richard Keane will be supporting Cherry Lodge by taking part in the London to Brighton Bike Ride. This huge annual fundraising event is organised by the British Heart Foundation but, once people have paid their entrance fee to BHF, they can raise money for any charity they wish.
Daniel is the father and Richard the brother of Michelle Keane, a Cherry Lodge member, so they have chosen to raise money for us. Please sponsor them as generously as you can, using the Cherry Lodge Online Donation Form on this website, in person or by contacting Tina by phone or email.
Daniel Coyle will be climbing high on 4th-5th July 2015 to raise mountains of money for Cherry Lodge! Please sponsor him as generously as you can.
Daniel will be tackling the fabulous but physically very demanding UK Three Peaks 24 hour Challenge. This involves climbing the highest peaks in Scotland (Ben Nevis, 1344m), England (Scafell Pike, 978m) and Wales (Snowdon, 1085m) within a 24-hour time limit that also includes the drive between them. He will be accompanied by two seasoned physical challengers – Jonny Ferguson and Stephen Fruzynski – and supported logistically by Jonny’s father-in-law, Neil Brack.
On his JustGiving page, Daniel writes: ‘I am hoping to raise as much money as possible for Cherry Lodge Cancer Care who have been fantastic to my mum over the course of the last year and provide a service in the local area of Barnet that is completely dependent on donations so please sponsor me for this event. The Lodge, my mum, family and myself will be very grateful.’

It is not too late to sponsor a hole (£100) – please contact Alan on 0020 8440 7777.
Or, you might like to make a donation in memory of a golfer – please contact Tina on 020 8441 7000 or email tina@cherrylodgecancercare.org.uk.
If you are lucky enough to be attending on the day, you can also expect some excellent prizes in the charity auction.

The ICC was formed in 1970 and is based in Whetstone. It consists of 10 to 15 enthusiastic musicians with clarinets of all shapes and sizes, from the tiny E flat to the enormous contrabass. Together they produce a wonderful sound, well suited to a wide range of music, from classical, to big band, to jazz.
This concert is being put on to celebrate the ICC’s 45th anniversary – and all proceeds are being generously donated to Cherry Lodge to help fund our much needed information and support services for local people coping with cancer.

UPDATE (1st January 2016): Very unfortunately, Margaret has had to pull out of this event due to an injury. She is extremely disappointed but hopes that her many generous sponsors will allow her to carry over their sponsorship over until the spring, when she plans to undertake another 10k in aid of Cherry Lodge.
Cherry Lodge chairman, Dr Margaret Clark, will be getting sponsored fundraising off to a good start in 2016 by taking part in the Start Fitness Serpentine New Year’s Day 10k. This event, held on traffic-free paths within Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens, is a big annual draw for participants and spectators keen to get some fresh air and exercise after their various Christmas festivities.
As many people know, Margaret was formerly a keen Marathon runner. Unfortunately, in 2014, a knee replacement operation brought her running career to a close but it did not stifle her enthusiasm for this excellent event in the Park. Last year she walked the course – and she plans to do the same again, while hoping to raise even more money to help fund Cherry Lodge’s much needed services.
You can sponsor Margaret by adding your name and details to an event sponsorship form, available at Howard House. Alternatively, if you would prefer to donate online, please click here to access the JustGiving page set up for this event. For further information please contact Tina on 020 8441 7000 or email tina@cherrylodgecancercare.org.uk.
Some of you will already be familiar with the popular Coffee Mornings held on Saturdays at Barnet’s Wesley Hall in Stapylton Road. During January 2016 there is once again a particularly good reason for Cherry Lodge supporters to pop in and enjoy the refreshments and hospitality because all proceeds will be donated to support our much needed services.
Coffee Mornings – with proceeds in aid of Cherry Lodge Cancer Care – are being held each Saturday in January, from 10 am until 12 noon.
