Events Programme
Cherry Lodge Cancer Care fundraisers work hard to put on an interesting and varied programme of events. Coming up next is A Taste of the Middle East at the Landsby on Monday 11th November 2024.
On this page of the website you can see our events programme presented in two different ways. Use the drop-down menu immediately below this text to select either ‘Agenda’ (an interactive list with dates, which is the default option) or ‘Month’ (an interactive calendar that shows the planned events month by month). Each of these options provides an overview of our scheduled events.
You can find out more detailed information about an event in the following ways. If you are using the Agenda view, click on an event to see a display box and a Read More button to take you to the event page, where you will find full details including a map. If you are using the Monthly Calendar, hover your cursor over an event date to see a display box and then click to go to the event page.
The 2016 Virgin London Marathon will take place on the streets of London on Sunday 24th April. This iconic marathon is a major event on the international sporting calendar and is also an important fundraising opportunity for charities like Cherry Lodge Cancer Care.
This year Cherry Lodge has a team of five runners, who are all currently training hard to run for us. (Two other people have sadly had to withdraw due to injury.) The physical effort required to take part in this event is enormous – and the least the rest of us can do is to sponsor our runners and so show our support for them and for Cherry Lodge!
To sponsor a runner whose name appears in blue in the list below, click on the name to access that runner’s online fundraising page. Otherwise, contact our runners directly, or, for more information about any of the people who will be running for us, please call Tina or Nisha on 020 8441 7000 or e-mail tina@cherrylodgecancercare.org.uk.
Running in this year’s Virgin London Marathon to raise funds for Cherry Lodge Cancer Care will be:
Lorna Dudding
Paul Woodward
Our runners would definitely appreciate your support on the day. Why not add Marathon to your diary for 24th April and make plans to go and cheer our team on? More information about the race, including general advice for spectators, can be found on the Virgin London Marathon website.
Please help us to raise funds for Cherry Lodge Cancer Care while enjoying yourself at a fabulous tea party to be held at Hadley Wood Golf Club, on Monday 25th April 2016 from 2 to 4.30pm.
As well as being able to enjoy the club’s elegant surroundings and a delicious selection of sandwiches and cakes, you will have the opportunity to meet our special guest, Lisa Faulkner. Lisa made her name as a TV actress, with credits including Dangerfield, Brookside, Holby City and Spooks. Since winning Celebrity Masterchef in 2010, she has established a successful further career as a chef and cookery writer.
For further information about this event and to buy tickets, please contact Tina on 020 8441 7000 or email tina@cherrylodgecancercare.org.uk.
Our Annual General Meeting will be held at the newly refurbished Cherry Lodge Centre, Howard House in Union Street, Barnet on Tuesday 10th May 2016. Anyone with an interest in Cherry Lodge and our work is invited to attend.
After the business of the AGM, there will be a talk by David James and Richard Weekes, entitled ’10 Years of Summer Soulstice Supporting Cherry Lodge’. Since 2007, Barnet’s Summer Soulstice festival has raised more than £170,000 for Cherry Lodge.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS A FREE EVENT BUT BY TICKET ONLY
Cherry Lodge Cancer Care will be holding a ‘Healthy Living Day’ at Barnet Multicultural Centre on Monday 16th May 2016.
Our aim for the day is to highlight activities and positive interventions that may be beneficial and supportive to people living with cancer and other chronic or life limiting conditions. Activities will include a seated exercise class, mindfulness session, healthy cookery demonstration, yoga and singing.
We are fortunate to have Dr Pauline Leonard, MD FRCP, Consultant Oncologist at the Whittington Hospital attending as our keynote speaker and also available to offer information at other times during the day.
There will be a free vegetarian lunch.
The event will be upbeat and fun, empowering you to make some positive but easy changes to your daily life.
Free tickets (with numbers limited) are available from Cherry Lodge on 020 8441 7000 or from Barnet Multicultural Centre on 020 8202 3794.
Between 8th and 12th June 2016, George Komodromou will be cycling from London to Paris to raise money for Cherry Lodge Cancer Care. The ride, organised by Discover Adventure, will be physically challenging but hopefully also enjoyable and rewarding.
We are asking you to support George as generously as you can, in person, via Cherry Lodge (contact Tina or Nisha) or via George’s JustGiving page.
Please take a few moments to read George’s story, which also appears on his JustGiving page:
“I’ve decided to take on the gruelling London to Paris cycle ride – covering some 300 miles over 4 days. The reason – I like a tough challenge, I want to get fit, and most importantly I wanted to raise money for a truly worthwhile cause that I have personally benefited from.
This year I will be riding for Cherry Lodge Cancer Care – a charity committed to improving the quality of life for those living with cancer, their carers and families. I will be fully funding the ride myself – so ALL money raised will go to Cherry Lodge. They provide high quality information, support and complementary therapies to people affected by cancer. I cannot emphasise enough how special Cherry Lodge is, and the huge help it gives to people that are going through such a traumatic experience.
Following my last bout of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma back in 2012 I have first-hand experience of the amazing work Cherry Lodge do, which I found invaluable following my diagnosis, during my treatment and subsequent road to recovery after being given the all clear. I still use their services today and would not have been able to cope fully with my experience without their help.
To give something back I want to raise as much money as possible for Cherry Lodge, so that other cancer sufferers, their carers and families can also benefit from their incredible services. They are a small charity that cannot operate without donations – so please dig as deep as you can and donate to this wonderful organisation.
I will be giving up a lot of sweat, family time and weekends to train, I will be spending a fortune on funding the ride itself as well as ‘having’ to buy lots of cycling paraphernalia (this excites me a lot) – and I will also be gaining a very sore bum – but I feel this is the least I can do for a charity that gave me so much.
Please please please donate whatever you can – I don’t care how big or small (although in this instance bigger is better). Donating is very fast and easy so no excuses!
Please share this in your facebook pages, tell your friends, neighbours, work colleagues and anyone else that will listen.
Thank you in advance for taking time to read my page and hope together we can smash the small target I have set.”
Do come and join us at the Cherry Lodge Arts and Crafts Fair on Saturday 18th June 2016. The fair will be held in St James Church in East Barnet Road, New Barnet, which is an excellent venue with lots of space and a very welcoming atmosphere.
This year our Summer Fair will have more stalls and activities than ever before, including: performances by Danegrove School and the Cherry Lodge Singers, an antiques valuer, a show of artwork by members of the Cherry Lodge Art Group, an artist drawing portraits, a tombola stall, and stalls selling local handicrafts, vintage items, plants and homemade cakes. There will also be a Summer Cafe.
For the kids there will be an art competition, a kids’ corner, face painting – and an appearance by Winnie the Pooh!
For further information, please contact Tina on 020 8441 7000 or email tina@cherrylodgecancercare.org.uk.
Tickets for Summer Soulstice 10 have now sold out. Congratulations to everyone who has already bought a ticket and commiserations to anyone who has left it too late! This is sure to be another great day out for young and old alike. Check out the Summer Soulstice website for full event news.
Since 2007, Summer Soulstice events have raised over £175,000 for Cherry Lodge Cancer Care – a wonderful way for the Soulstice crew to remember their friend Andy Weekes and to raise funds to help Cherry Lodge provide information and support services for people affected by cancer. This year, the 10th anniversary of Summer Soulstice and the 20th anniversary of Cherry Lodge Cancer Care, the Soulstice crew are looking to take their fundraising total to a fantastic £200,000.
Enjoy a great day out with all your family at Meadow Park, Borehamwood on Saturday 2nd July 2016. This action-packed Families Day is part of Elstree and Borehamwood’s 60th Annual Civic Festival.
Please come along to the Cherry Lodge Cancer Care stall, manned by staff and volunteers from our Borehamwood shop. Help us to raise money for our important work while having some fun at the tombola and lucky dip. You will also find a good selection of merchandise on sale, including jewellery, bric a brac – and sunglasses (fingers crossed for a sunny afternoon!).
This popular annual fixture, when the Herts XI takes on a team of Spurs Legends, will kick off at 7.45pm on Friday 22nd July 2016. Please note that this year, as well as being on a Friday evening, the match will be at a different ground: Borehamwood FC in Broughinge Road, WD6 5AL
The Spurs Legends squad is still to be announced – but we can promise there will be some famous players on the pitch, as well as guest stars and managers attending on the day. Among those expected to attend are Ossie Ardiles, Graham Roberts, Micky Hazard and Pat Jennings, along with Darren Anderton, Mark Falco, David Howells, Andy Sinton, Tony Galvin and Stephen Clemence.
The match will be followed by music and entertainment and there will also be a grand raffle and auction.
Monies raised will be donated to Cherry Lodge Cancer Care and Borehamwood Youth FC. Tickets, costing £7 for adults and only £3.50 for senior citizens and children under 12, will be available on the day at the Turnstile.
This event is being organised by John Murphy and sponsored by Finchpalm, Digital Distribution and Tottenham Hotspur. Please contact john.murphy@finchpalm.co.uk directly to:

Please do all you can to make this event a great fundraising success as well as a great evening’s entertainment!
JustGiving pages linked to this event have been set up by Herts XI team members Ricky Brown (with Dean Shuttleworth), Steve Weldon and Matthew Tilbury – please visit their pages to make a donation to support our very good cause.
On Sunday 21st August 2016, Cherry Lodge Cancer Care and Parkinson’s UK will be hosting a charity lunch at a beautiful private house and garden in Potters Bar.
Tickets cost £15 and are on sale now from Cherry Lodge. As well as a delicious buffet brunch, there will be a range of stalls, complementary therapies, a raffle and more.
For further information and to buy tickets, please contact Tina on 020 8441 7000 or email tina@cherrylodgecancercare.org.uk
For what is sure to be a memorable experience, you are invited to join members of the Soulstice crew at the Black Horse pub on Bank Holiday Sunday, 28th August 2016. As well as eight hours of soulful grooves, funky jams and holiday beats, there will be a barbecue and a wide choice of great beers and wines. Please see the Summer Soulstice website for more information.
As in previous years, this will be a very important occasion for Cherry Lodge Cancer Care as the Soulstice crew will be handing us another huge cheque. Summer Soulstice is by far the biggest third-party supporter of Cherry Lodge and the £40,000 raised for us at Summer Soulstice 10 on 25th June 2016 will take their total donation since 2007 to a tremendous and very much appreciated £215,000! The cheque handover is scheduled to take place at 6.30pm.
From 3rd to 10th September 2016, Alex Woods is walking the Thames Path to raise money for Cherry Lodge Cancer Care. He will be covering between 20 and 26 miles each day – a total of 184 miles – from the source of the Thames in Gloucestershire to the Thames Barrier. This is an ambitious challenge and is Alex’s way of saying thank you to Cherry Lodge for the support received during the illness of his wife, Anne Marie.

We are asking you to support Alex as generously as you can, in person, via Cherry Lodge (contact Tina or Nisha) or via Alex’s JustGiving page. Please take a few moments to read Alex’s story:
“In August 2015 our world was turned upside down when my darling wife – Ann-Marie – was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer, aged only 32. To say that this past year has been tough for her, and for all of us, would be a massive understatement. Coming on for a year later, and Ann-Marie has finally finished the gruelling schedule of treatment at the Royal Marsden – five months of chemotherapy and a month of daily radiotherapy – and is back at work. I am so proud of her…
To make it to this stage, we have had to tap into reserves we didn’t even know we had, hold on hard to each other and to the boys, and sometimes rely heavily on family and friends. We were also fortunate enough to be able to call on Cherry Lodge Cancer Care for additional support; it is a truly amazing place that we have been extremely lucky to live only walking distance away from.”
Join him
Alex is inviting family members, friends and anyone else wishing to support Cherry Lodge to join him on any or all of his walk. He is especially keen to gather together a good crowd on the last day, when he will walk from Putney to the Thames Barrier (where he is already looking forward to enjoying a well-earned beer!).
If you would like more information, please get in touch with him via tina@cherrylodgecancercare.org.uk.
