Events Programme
Cherry Lodge Cancer Care fundraisers work hard to put on an interesting and varied programme of events. Coming up next is A Taste of the Middle East at the Landsby on Monday 11th November 2024.
On this page of the website you can see our events programme presented in two different ways. Use the drop-down menu immediately below this text to select either ‘Agenda’ (an interactive list with dates, which is the default option) or ‘Month’ (an interactive calendar that shows the planned events month by month). Each of these options provides an overview of our scheduled events.
You can find out more detailed information about an event in the following ways. If you are using the Agenda view, click on an event to see a display box and a Read More button to take you to the event page, where you will find full details including a map. If you are using the Monthly Calendar, hover your cursor over an event date to see a display box and then click to go to the event page.
Our Grand Annual Raffle will be drawn during Drop In at Cherry Lodge on Tuesday 14th October 2014.
Tickets are £1 each and are available from the Cherry Lodge Centre and from our charity shops in Barnet and Borehamwood. This year why not take a couple more books, each containing 10 tickets, and make a real effort to sell them on to family members, friends and work colleagues?
The tickets should be easy to sell: Cherry Lodge is a great cause and the prizes look very tempting:
- 1st prize: Three nights bed and breakfast in central Paris for two people, travelling by Eurostar (trip organised by Allison Brothers Ltd.)
- 2nd prize: £100 Marks & Spencer Vouchers
- 3rd prize: £100 John Lewis Voucher
- 4th prize: £50 Voucher for Maroush Lebanese Restaurant
- 5th prize: Deluxe Christmas Hamper (available in December)
Alll counterfoils and cash should now be with Tina ahead of the draw on Tuesday 14th October.
Please come along to the Spires Shopping Centre on Saturday 18th October and buy lots of tickets at the Cherry Lodge Pink Tombola stall. There will be an unimaginably wide range of prizes for you to win – including items to eat, drink, wear or simply admire – and every one of them will be pink!
As well as providing a bit of fun and raising much needed funds for Cherry Lodge, this event is also important for being our contribution to National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Cherry Lodge is thrilled that Finchley and Friern Barnet Operatic Society (FFBOS) will be putting on its Gala Opening Night performance of Mack and Mabel in aid of our charity.
Mack and Mabel, based on a book by Michael Stewart, with music and lyrics by Jerry Herman, revised by Francine Pascall, is a classic Hollywood musical about the tumultuous romantic relationship between Hollywood director Mack Sennett and Mabel Normand (transformed for the musical from an artist’s model to a Brooklyn waitress), who became one of his biggest stars.
Elaine Paige, OBE, Honorary Vice President for FFBOS has sent the following note of support:
How wonderful to see the arts and charity coming together in the local community. A tremendous musical about the life and times of the King of Comedy, Mack Sennett, who gave us the Keystone Cops and Charlie Chaplin and brought such greats to the screen as WC Fields and Bing Crosby. Local theatre is alive and well!
Have a tremendous night – delighted that FFBOS can support such a worthy cause. Please do give this your support. Break a leg! Elaine Paige OBE
Dame Helen Mirren, Patron of Cherry Lodge, has sent a signed photograph to help with publicity and wrote as follows:
As Patron for Cherry Lodge Cancer Care, I am happy to support this Gala Event performance of ‘Mack and Mabel’ being held at the Intimate Theatre. I wish everyone involved in this event every success. I am just sorry that I cannot be there. Dame Helen Mirren.
This will be a great evening out, with some very special guests, including Elaine Paige, expected to attend.
Priority tickets are available to members of Cherry Lodge by simply contacting the FFBOS booking secretary by phone or email (you can use the live contact email link above) or ordering direct online through www.ticketsource.co.uk/ffbos (for which a small booking fee applies). This ticketing website can be easily accessed by clicking on the live ‘Event website’ link above.
Please note that although this is a Gala Event, there is no obligation to wear black tie as the dresscode for the evening is lounge suits.
Our 2014 Christmas Market will be held in Church House, Wood Street, Barnet on Saturday 29th November, from 10 until 4. Please come along and get into the Christmas spirit.
There will be wonderful gifts for all the family, including useful and decorative items for the home and garden, attractive hand-made items of clothing, children’s toys, and home-made cakes and preserves. Santa will be attending, as will a face painter and manicurist. There will also be a tombola stall and a raffle with some excellent prizes. Morning coffee, soup, lunch and afternoon tea will all be on offer. The Cherry Lodge Singers will be performing a programme of seasonal numbers in the early afternoon.
The Cherry Lodge blanket – composed of knitted squares, some plain and some striped but all toning beautifully to produce a harmonious whole – was produced by a group of members who took up their needles to knit together for an hour or so after Tuesday drop-ins.
Raffle tickets for the blanket, costing £2 each, have been on sale at Cherry Lodge since the beginning of October. As promised, the blanket was displayed for all to see at the Christmas Market on Saturday 29th November (see photograph, below). Sitting in front of the blanket, busy with her needles, was Kathryn, a founding member of the knitting group, whose members are already thinking about new projects for next year.
The draw for the blanket will take place at the pre-Christmas drop-in on Tuesday 23rd December.
On Saturday 17th January 2015 Barnet Band will be playing an exhilarating and entertaining programme of music to ‘Blow Away The Winter Blues’ – just the thing for what might otherwise prove to be a dismal January evening. Please come along to St James’s church in New Barnet to listen to Barnet’s Community Wind Band and help raise funds for Cherry Lodge. The ticket price of £10 includes interval refreshments. Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.
Make the most of this chance to get valuations for your antiques and collectables while also helping to raise money for local charities, including Cherry Lodge Cancer Care, Finchley Food Bank and Stephens House
This event, organised by Finchley WI, will take place on Sunday 8th March 2015 at Stephens House in East Finchley. Admission to the house, former home of Henry Stephens of Stephens ink fame, is free. Entrance to the Valuation Day event is £10 per person, entitling you to bring as many items as you like for valuation: china, jewellery, paintings, clocks, watches, gold, silver, toys, stamps, coins, etc. The experts from Bonningtons Auctioneers will be on hand to make valuations from 10.30 am to 2.30 pm and there is no need to book. Please note that furniture and other very large items cannot be accepted.
There will also be a Tombola Stall, Lucky Dip and Cakes and Crafts stall. If you are thinking of having a meal out, Sunday Lunch is available at Stephens House – please book directly with Stephens House on 0208 346 7812.
The 2015 Virgin London Marathon will take place on the streets of London on Sunday 26th April. This iconic marathon is a major event on the international sporting calendar and is also an important fundraising opportunity for Cherry Lodge Cancer Care and countless other charities, large and small.
Please show your support by sponsoring our runners as generously as you can. Our four runners – Paul Abbot-Williams, Stephen Fletcher, Andy Georgiou and Alan Stewart – will be making a huge physical effort on the day. The least the rest of us can do is to show our support for them and for Cherry Lodge. (Sadly, our fifth prospective runner, Paul Woodward, is unable to take part due to injury).
For information on how to sponsor our runners, please see the London Marathon page in the Recent Events section of our website, or contact Tina on 020 8441 7000 or e-mail tina@cherrylodgecancercare.org.uk.
Our runners would also appreciate your support on the day. Why not add Marathon to your diary for 26th April and make plans to go and cheer them on?
On Sunday 21st June 2015, Daniel and Richard Keane will be supporting Cherry Lodge by taking part in the London to Brighton Bike Ride. This huge annual fundraising event is organised by the British Heart Foundation but, once people have paid their entrance fee to BHF, they can raise money for any charity they wish.
Daniel is the father and Richard the brother of Michelle Keane, a Cherry Lodge member, so they have chosen to raise money for us. Please sponsor them as generously as you can, using the Cherry Lodge Online Donation Form on this website, in person or by contacting Tina by phone or email.
Daniel Coyle will be climbing high on 4th-5th July 2015 to raise mountains of money for Cherry Lodge! Please sponsor him as generously as you can.
Daniel will be tackling the fabulous but physically very demanding UK Three Peaks 24 hour Challenge. This involves climbing the highest peaks in Scotland (Ben Nevis, 1344m), England (Scafell Pike, 978m) and Wales (Snowdon, 1085m) within a 24-hour time limit that also includes the drive between them. He will be accompanied by two seasoned physical challengers – Jonny Ferguson and Stephen Fruzynski – and supported logistically by Jonny’s father-in-law, Neil Brack.
On his JustGiving page, Daniel writes: ‘I am hoping to raise as much money as possible for Cherry Lodge Cancer Care who have been fantastic to my mum over the course of the last year and provide a service in the local area of Barnet that is completely dependent on donations so please sponsor me for this event. The Lodge, my mum, family and myself will be very grateful.’
