Events Programme
Cherry Lodge Cancer Care fundraisers work hard to put on an interesting and varied programme of events. Very successful CL events in the run up to Christmas 2024 included the Cherry Lodge Christmas Fair on 30th November, the Festive Extravaganza at The Landsby on 9th December, and Carol Singing in The Spires by local schoolchildren on Wednesdays 4th and 11th December. Thank you very much indeed to all our fundraisers. Information about exciting new events will be posted early in the New Year.
On this page of the website you can see our events programme presented in two different ways. Use the drop-down menu immediately below this text to select either ‘Agenda’ (an interactive list with dates, which is the default option) or ‘Month’ (an interactive calendar that shows the planned events month by month). Each of these options provides an overview of our scheduled events.
You can find out more detailed information about an event in the following ways. If you are using the Agenda view, click on an event to see a display box and a Read More button to take you to the event page, where you will find full details including a map. If you are using the Monthly Calendar, hover your cursor over an event date to see a display box and then click to go to the event page.
On Sunday 4th March 2018, Sarah Finlay will be taking part in a new London half marathon to raise money for Cherry Lodge Cancer Care’s much needed services for people affected by cancer. Please sponsor her via her Virgin money fundraising page.
Sarah is raising money in memory of Tim Yonel, a former member of Cherry Lodge. In her words:
“Tim was an amazing young man, clever, talented, funny and caring – he was also my nephew’s best friend. They went through Beavers and Cubs together with their goal being NOT to be awarded the achievement/activity badges that others were desperate to gain – they achieved this goal with flying colours!
Tim was diagnosed with a brain tumour at the age of 23 while on a gap year in Sydney, Australia before starting out on his career path. He sadly lost his fight with this cruel disease in May 2016 at the age of 30. Cherry Lodge played a valuable part in supporting Tim’s family while they cared for him during his illness.”
The Big Half is a new London half marathon event created by the organisers of the London Marathon. As well as sponsoring Sarah and helping raise funds for Cherry Lodge Cancer Care, you might like to go down to Greenwich on the day to spur Sarah on and enjoy the Vitality Big Festival. This will be an exuberant celebration of London’s diverse culture, with food and music in Greenwich Park throughout the day.
Do come and join us at our Swing Night to be held at the Holiday Inn, Elstree on Saturday 10th March 2018. All proceeds are in aid of Cherry Lodge Cancer Care so this is a great opportunity to help fund our many services as well as to enjoy a great night out! Beat the winter blues with the sounds of the Rat Pack, listen to singer Dean Gee and dance the night away with our Party Mix.
Tickets cost £26 per person and include a welcome glass of prosecco and a light buffet (including Thai chicken skewers, dips and crudités, fish goujons and potato salad). The dress code is lounge suit. To purchase tickets, please call Tina on 020 8441 7000 or email tina@cherrylodgecancercare.org.uk
Please show your support for Cherry Lodge Cancer Care by coming to our Easter Craft Fair, to be held on Saturday 24th March 2018 – the weekend before Easter. The event will take place in St James Church, 71 East Barnet Road, New Barnet, EN4 8RN.
Come and enjoy the Easter theme, including a chocolate egg hunt and a giant Easter Bunny to entertain the children. There will also be a Kids’ Corner featuring craft activities and face painting. The fair will open with a performance by a local school choir.
The many stalls will be offering a wide range of items, providing an excellent opportunity to treat yourself or to buy gifts for family and friends. You will find beautiful hand-crafted items to wear or for the home as well as a tempting selection of plants. As always, our well stocked tombola stall will provide a bit of fun as well as a chance to win some great prizes. Refreshments will be available at the Fair cafe, staffed by Cherry Lodge volunteers.
Surely we can expect spring to have arrived by 9th April 2018, when Dawn Ledgard will be holding another of her very popular Clothes Sales at Hadley Wood. These twice-yearly sales offer ladies of all ages, shapes and sizes a very good value opportunity to buy from an extensive range of beautiful designer clothing, jewellery and accessories. All items are on sale at well below High Street prices and there are attractive special offers on multiple purchases.
As usual, the sale will be held at the Hadley Wood Association Centre (behind the Tennis Club). The venue is about 5 minutes from Hadley Wood station on foot. If you come by car, it is just 5 minutes from junction 24 on the M25 and there is free parking next to the tennis courts. Why not bring a friend and enjoy a coffee while you browse? As past customers know, buying here is much more convenient and less stressful than a trip into the West End. It is also much more enjoyable and reliable than buying online.
Donations of £1 at the door, plus commission on sales, will be given to Cherry Lodge Cancer Care to help fund our valuable services for people affected by cancer.
Brews & Soul will be back at the Black Horse pub in Barnet on Saturday 21st April 2018, from 7.30 until 1pm. Come along to ‘Glitterball Blues’ to enjoy soulful beats courtesy of resident DJs Double J and Jester Groove plus special guest Marie Garraccio (of Six Million Steps).
Advance online tickets, costing £5 (+ £1.19 booking fee), are available via the Summer Soulstice website. There is also the option to buy £5 tickets direct from the venue (in person only, no phone orders please). There will also be a strictly limited number of £10 tickets available at the door on the night.
The Black Horse offers a wide selection of beers along with a great wine list and an ever-changing choice of craft ales. The pub’s hard working and friendly staff always aim to make sure everyone is happy!
Strictly Over 21′s • No entry after 11pm • The Black Horse R.O.A.R • www.blackhorsebarnet.co.uk
As always, a percentage of the proceeds from this Brews & Soul event will go towards the costs of Summer Soulstice 2018, to be held this year on 23rd June 2018, raising money for Cherry Lodge Cancer Care and other local causes.
The 2018 Virgin London Marathon will take place on the streets of London on Sunday 22nd April. This iconic marathon is a major event on the international sporting calendar and is also an important fundraising opportunity for charities like Cherry Lodge Cancer Care.
This Sunday we have six runners all set to take part on our behalf. Fortunately, all of them stayed injury-free despite the cold weather during training. Now, by contrast, they are faced with running the actual race in record high temperatures – the least the rest of us can do is to show our support through sponsorship!
Running for Cherry Lodge Cancer Care in the 2018 London Marathon are:

Shocked by news of the burglary at Soulstice HQ, The Highstone Dance Academy is putting on a fundraising Danceathon to recoup some of the stolen money. The event, from 4pm to 6.30pm on Thursday 12th July 2018, is being held in association with the Coffee Bean coffee shop and with permission from The Spires, Barnet.
The Highstone Dance Academy is a large dance school based in Hadley Highstone, High Barnet. Dancers from the school have always opened Summer Soulstice with a dance performance and the school has a big connection with the fundraisers at Soulstice.
At the Danceathon, pupils from the Highstone Dance Academy will be doing a non stop dance marathon under the guidance of their teachers.
All proceeds of the afternoon will go to the Soulstice Crowd Funding page to replace some of the stolen £45,000+ and consequently will help Cherry Lodge Cancer Care to continue to provide its valuable cancer information and support services completely free of charge to people affected by cancer, including family members and carers. The Coffee Bean have also agreed to donate their proceeds from the event.
If you have any time to spare between 4pm and 6.30pm on Thursday 12th July, do please go along to The Spires to watch the dancers and make a donation. Donations can be made to the Highstone Dance Academy or put in the box on the counter in the Coffee Bean.
