Events Programme
Cherry Lodge Cancer Care fundraisers work hard to put on an interesting and varied programme of events. Very successful CL events in the run up to Christmas 2024 included the Cherry Lodge Christmas Fair on 30th November, the Festive Extravaganza at The Landsby on 9th December, and Carol Singing in The Spires by local schoolchildren on Wednesdays 4th and 11th December. Thank you very much indeed to all our fundraisers. Information about exciting new events will be posted early in the New Year.
On this page of the website you can see our events programme presented in two different ways. Use the drop-down menu immediately below this text to select either ‘Agenda’ (an interactive list with dates, which is the default option) or ‘Month’ (an interactive calendar that shows the planned events month by month). Each of these options provides an overview of our scheduled events.
You can find out more detailed information about an event in the following ways. If you are using the Agenda view, click on an event to see a display box and a Read More button to take you to the event page, where you will find full details including a map. If you are using the Monthly Calendar, hover your cursor over an event date to see a display box and then click to go to the event page.

Despite the date, there’ll be no fooling about at Summer Soulstice’s next Brews and Soul event – Holloway Brews – to be held on 1st April 2017, from 7.30pm until 1am at the Black Horse pub in Wood Street, Barnet. DJ Nicky Holloway will be joining residents Double-J and Jester Groove to provide another great evening of soulful beats. As always, the pub’s friendly and hard-working staff will be offering a wide selection of beers along with a great wine list and an ever-changing choice of craft ales.
Visit the Summer Soulstice website for full details and to buy tickets in advance at £5 (plus £1 booking fee). Advance tickets costing £5 can also be bought over the counter at the Black Horse. A strictly limited number of tickets at £10 each will be available on the door on the night. Strictly over 21s. No entry after 11pm.
A percentage of the proceeds from Holloway Brews will go towards costs for the next Summer Soulstice festival taking place on Saturday 24th June 2017. The latest news on tickets for this year’s Summer Soulstice festival is that there are fewer than one thousand remaining. Last year’s festival was a sell out so if you haven’t bought your tickets already, visit the Summer Soulstice website and buy them soon to avoid losing out.
To liven up your wardrobe and look good in spring and summer 2017 you are invited to come along to the Dawn Ledgard Spring 2017 Clothes Sale. These popular seasonal sales offer a very good value opportunity to buy from an extensive range of beautiful designer clothing, jewellery and accessories. Why not bring a friend and enjoy a coffee while you browse?
As usual, this sale will be held at the Hadley Wood Association Centre (behind the Tennis Club). As past customers know, buying here is much more convenient and less stressful than a trip into the West End. It is also much more enjoyable and reliable than buying online.
Donations of £1 at the door, plus commission on sales, will be given to Cherry Lodge Cancer Care to help fund our valuable services for people affected by cancer.
Please show your support for Cherry Lodge Cancer Care by coming to our new seasonal craft fair, to be held on 8th April 2017 – the Saturday before Easter. The event will take place in St James Church in East Barnet Road, New Barnet, where there is lots of space for stalls and activities.
Come and enjoy the Easter theme, including a chocolate egg hunt and a giant Easter Bunny to entertain the children. Face painting and henna tattoos will also be on offer at The Kids’ Corner.
The many stalls will be offering a wide range of items, providing a good opportunity to treat yourself or to buy gifts for family and friends. There will be beautiful hand-crafted items to wear or for the home, as well as delicious cakes and preserves. The well-stocked tombola stall will as always provide a bit of fun as well as a chance to win some great prizes. Refreshments will be available at the Fair cafe, staffed by Cherry Lodge volunteers.
Our Easter Craft Fair will also feature the first public appearance in 2017 of the Cherry Lodge Singers.
The 2017 Virgin London Marathon will take place on the streets of London on Sunday 23rd April. This iconic marathon is a major event on the international sporting calendar and is also an important fundraising opportunity for charities like Cherry Lodge Cancer Care.
We currently have seven runners signed up and training hard to take part on our behalf. (Unfortunately, our eighth runner has had to withdraw from this year’s race due to injury – we wish him well for next year.) The commitment and physical effort required to run a marathon is enormous and the least the rest of us can do is to show our support through sponsorship.
All our runners have now set up online fundraising pages, which you can access by clicking on their names listed below:
Alternatively, contact our runners directly, or, for more information about any of the people who will be running for us, please call Tina or Nisha on 020 8441 7000 or e-mail tina@cherrylodgecancercare.org.uk.
Our runners would also definitely appreciate your support on the day. Why not add Marathon to your diary for 23rd April and make plans to go and cheer our team on? More information about the race, including general advice for spectators, can be found on the Virgin London Marathon website.
Cherry Lodge’s regular quiz setters, David and Maureen Southon, will be returning to Mary Immaculate and St Peter’s Church Hall on Saturday 6th May 2017 for our upcoming Spring Quiz.
Word has got around that Cherry Lodge’s quizzes offer a great night out, with well chosen questions on a good range of topics, as well as an excellent fish and chip supper or vegetarian alternative. All 12 tables (for a maximum of 8 people) have already been booked – but if you are still keen to attend, please contact Tina, who will be able to let you know if there are any cancellations or individual spaces remaining.
Our Annual General Meeting will be held at the Cherry Lodge Centre, Howard House in Union Street, Barnet on Tuesday 16h May 2017 at 7.30pm. Anyone with an interest in Cherry Lodge and our work is invited to attend.
After the business of the AGM, there will be a presentation by Tottenham Hotspur Foundation in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support on their innovative MOVE4YOU Cancer Physical Activity Programme. (This will replace the previously announced talk on the subject of dementia and cancer care, which has had to be rescheduled.)
If you wish to attend, please RSVP by 15th May to Yvonne Shield on 020 8441 7000 or email yvonne@cherrylodgecancercare.org.uk
Please visit the Snowdon Stars’ fundraising page and make a donation to support the fantastic fundraising effort of the grandchildren of one of the many individuals and their families who have benefited from the services of Cherry Lodge Cancer Care. Please sponsor the children as generously as you can.
Here is their story:
Hi, we are Kia and Myan, Our grandfather passed away on 21st September 2016 after a short battle with stomach cancer. He was lovingly supported by Cherry Lodge Cancer Care and North London Hospice during his illness and they were a great support to him and the family.
This started out as just family and friends but in order to help raise our target we have come together with a local youth club close to our heart to aim high.
With the great support of Masters Youth Club, family and friends, we aim to help raise a lot of money for these charities as well as have a great time climbing. My grandfather was actively involved in the club for many years.
Masters Youth Club have generously come on board to help us with this venture and hope that with the support of all our friends, family and local businesses, we can raise so much funds for these charities that help look after patients like our grandad.
Our friends, Ambika (6), Maya (10), Siya (7), Nikhil (14), Krish (10), Keyush (14), Ishan (14), Shiv (8) and Diya (5) are climbing with us and their parents/carers are joining and encouraging us youngsters to do well. So please dig deep and give generously to support us and the two wonderful charities.
Thanks,
Kia and Myan
