Cherry Lodge is thrilled that Finchley and Friern Barnet Operatic Society (FFBOS) will be putting on its Gala Opening Night performance of Mack and Mabel in aid of our charity.
Mack and Mabel, based on a book by Michael Stewart, with music and lyrics by Jerry Herman, revised by Francine Pascall, is a classic Hollywood musical about the tumultuous romantic relationship between Hollywood director Mack Sennett and Mabel Normand (transformed for the musical from an artist’s model to a Brooklyn waitress), who became one of his biggest stars.
Elaine Paige, OBE, Honorary Vice President for FFBOS has sent the following note of support:
How wonderful to see the arts and charity coming together in the local community. A tremendous musical about the life and times of the King of Comedy, Mack Sennett, who gave us the Keystone Cops and Charlie Chaplin and brought such greats to the screen as WC Fields and Bing Crosby. Local theatre is alive and well!
Have a tremendous night – delighted that FFBOS can support such a worthy cause. Please do give this your support. Break a leg! Elaine Paige OBE
Dame Helen Mirren, Patron of Cherry Lodge, has sent a signed photograph to help with publicity and wrote as follows:
As Patron for Cherry Lodge Cancer Care, I am happy to support this Gala Event performance of ‘Mack and Mabel’ being held at the Intimate Theatre. I wish everyone involved in this event every success. I am just sorry that I cannot be there. Dame Helen Mirren.
This will be a great evening out, with some very special guests, including Elaine Paige, expected to attend.
