Supporters of Cherry Lodge Cancer Care enjoyed ‘a great night in’ on Saturday 24th October 2020. This Zoom Comedy Night, organised by CL’s fundraising events coordinator, Tina, and Collywobblers Comedy Club, was hugely enjoyable and successful, raising a much needed £790 after expenses.
Ticket purchases, in advance from online Comedy box office JokePit, were followed up on the night by an email with the secret Zoom link. Log-in began at 8.30pm and it was fun to watch as the audience gathered in the gallery, giving some of us a chance to see colleagues, friends and family members we had not seen for many months.

Host for the evening, Siôn James (see main photo, right), was warm, welcoming and entertaining, the ideal person to set the tone for an authentic Comedy Club encounter. Yes the event was via Zoom, but it really did live up to its promise to come ‘close to the magical live experience’.
First up was Tom Deacon, comedian, radio DJ and television presenter, with an act that touched on curtains, playing snap, Southampton FC and Pen Ding. I’m sure that many of us, especially those from the North of England, would love to meet the Spanish-born mother of comedian, actress and writer Fiona Allen. Sadly, a wifi problem meant we had only a quick glimpse of Aussie stand up comedian Damian Clark at his home in Ireland – a treat for another occasion (with free videos of him available to watch online). Angel Card Readings from Brabantia (Jo Romero), wearing her manifestation jacket, were wickedly funny and quite challenging for the recipients (including Tina, who responded very well). Last ‘on-stage’ was Irish/Iranian Geordi Patrick Monahan, a comedy circuit favourite who involved audience members (notably the Terzoli family and ‘Chippendale’ Cakebread) to great effect.
Cherry Lodge sends a huge thank you to everyone who helped bring such joy to a house-bound audience hungry for a taste of top class live entertainment!
