CL Winter 2020 Newsletter now on line

The Winter 2020 issue of “Cherry Lodge News” has now been sent to everyone on the Cherry Lodge Cancer Care mailing list. It is also possible, via this website, to download a pdf of the newsletter to read onscreen or to print out. Note that if you no longer wish to receive a copy of the newsletter by post, you can unsubscribe by contacting Tina by phone on 020 8441 7000 or by email.

This issue of Cherry Lodge News begins with a major article entitled “My Story…So Far” written by Ann-Marie W., who is a CL member. Ann-Marie is the founder and leader of the charity “28 Too Many”, which plays an important role nationally and internationally in the campaign against female genital mutilation (FGM). After being diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma, Ann-Marie writes that she had to “rethink [her] options and evaluate what dreams were still possible”. Despite her health challenges, she is determined to carry on working, while asking herself “what can I do and what can only I do?” As well continuing to engage in the fight against FGM, she has also become an advocate in new fields, including cancer research, support and awareness.

Also reported in this newsletter is the naming of “The Carolynne Cooper Therapy Room”, following the renovation and refurbishment of one of CL’s therapy rooms. The work was generously paid for and organised by the Cooper family as a memorial to Carolynne, who was a well loved and respected member of Cherry Lodge.

As well as a heartwarming article about a very unusual and much enjoyed CL outing, when members were invited to “Walk with Alpacas in Elstree”, this newsletter also includes information about a new Gardening Project at Shenley Park, plus a Letter to the Editor (about volunteering), our Bits and Pieces noticeboard, and a Summary of CL’s Services and Approach.

The Cherry Lodge newsletter is edited by Grant Whitaker, who writes: ‘If you would like to comment or provide us with some content please email me at whitakerge@aol.com or leave a note at Howard House.
