The decision to add a Summer Quiz to Cherry Lodge Cancer Care’s fundraising event schedule proved to be extremely popular. This sell-out event was held on Saturday 10th August 2019 at our usual quiz venue: Mary Immaculate & St Peter’s Church Hall in New Barnet.
This added opportunity to have fun with friends while answering – or trying to answer – a range of interesting and challenging questions was taken up by some 85 enthusiastic quizzers. Our regular Quiz Master, David Southon, ably assisted by his wife, Maureen, came up trumps as usual. There were 10 quiz rounds to test a broad range of general knowledge – on Colours, Musicals, Law and Order, Firsts and Lasts, General Knowledge, Geography, Silver and Gold, Art and Architecture, Games and finally Flags.
The table picture rounds were on: Famous Landmarks (not just names but locations and other questions, such as the year when New York’s Twin Towers were destroyed): Cartoon Characters (old and new favourites from Rupert Bear to Bart Simpson and SpongeBob); and Famous Willies (including Billy Bunter, William Hague and William the Conqueror).
As this was a Summer Quiz – though recent weather might suggest otherwise – there was a very tasty Ploughman’s Supper, which was supplied by Janine’s Home Made Meals and laid out for collection on buffet tables across the back of the hall. Drinks were available from the cash bar and raffle tickets were on sale.
The winning team can be seen celebrating in photo 7, below – and even the lowest scoring team had the consolation of a prize, though not the one they would have chosen (photo 8). All in all this was a very enjoyable and successful evening, helping to raise funds to enable Cherry Lodge to continue to provide its much needed cancer information and support services completely free of charge.
Thank you very much indeed to everyone who helped make this such a great evening.
