The Cherry Lodge Cancer Care Spring Quiz, held on Saturday 4th May 2019, was as usual a great success. The event sold out well in advance and those fortunate enough to have a ticket arrived at Mary Immaculate and St Peters Church Hall sure that they would have a good time. They were not disappointed!
Our regular Quiz Master, David Southon, ably assisted by his wife, Maureen, and daughter, Dawn (see photo 1, below), had put together a very interesting mix of questions to challenge and entertain. It is testament to our Quiz Family’s expertise that this quiz sold out within days of the date being announced.
Topics for the 10 question rounds were: numbers, connections, doctors, history, and politics, followed by sport, famous Martins, naming the year, natural world and pot luck. There were also three very interesting table rounds, requiring quizzers to name a selection of famous paintings, to identify famous stars of the silver screen, and to match town names to locations marked on a map of the UK.
An excellent supper of fish and chips (from Seafresh, Hampden Square, Southgate) or an alternative vegetarian option was served part way through the evening. There was also a fantastic raffle which raised £268.
Not surprisingly, the 11 teams of up to eight quizzers experienced mixed fortunes as the evening progressed. For some, the main objective is always to win. For others, the event is more of a social occasion, an opportunity to meet up with friends, pick up some interesting facts and hopefully avoid embarrassment. Included in our gallery below are the very impressive winners (photo 6) and one of the teams who tied for bottom place (photo 7) – note that the other losing team went home before the photographer could catch them!
As always, thank you very much indeed to David, Maureen and Dawn. Thank you also to everyone who helped ensure everything ran so smoothly on the night.
The Cherry Lodge 2019 Spring Quiz raised a very welcome £1,400.
In response to the huge popularity of our previously twice yearly quizzes, it has been decided to hold an extra one this year. There will be a new Summer Quiz, at our usual venue, on Saturday 10th August 2019.
