The winning raffle number was 418 – and the prize hamper has now been collected from Howard House.
The Cherry Lodge Cancer Care Christmas Fair is a seasonal favourite of many CL supporters. This year’s event, on Saturday 25th November 2023, was held as usual at St James Church, New Barnet. This large and spacious venue is an ideal setting for our fairs, with lots of room for stalls and activities.
To help publicise the event, Olaf the Snowman from Frozen greeted people outside Sainsbury’s, accompanied by volunteer Renie. Supermarket shoppers who accepted their invitation to attend the fair would not be disappointed. This year, there were more tables than ever, carrying a wide range of tempting items, including Christmas decorations, homeware, pampering products, stationery, clothing, jewellery and edibles. Cherry Lodge Christmas cards, items bearing the CL logo, and other merchandise including scarves and gloves were on sale at the Cherry Lodge stall. In addition to the Christmas Hamper raffle, there were two tombolas, one featuring bottles of various kinds and the other with prizes for children. Young and very young children loved having their faces and hands painted by two very skilled artists.
As always, the festive fair cafe with its cheerful volunteer helpers did a great trade, selling two kinds of soup, hot and cold drinks and a tempting choice of delicious home-made cakes. Free mince pies were also distributed by Tina. Tables and comfortable chairs, conveniently placed near the cafe, enabled customers to relax, enjoy the atmosphere, and chat to friends and other CL supporters.
Putting on an event of this size and complexity is no mean feat and requires a lot of hard work and attention to detail. Many thanks to Tina and her loyal team of volunteers for ensuring that the 2023 Cherry Lodge Cancer Care was another great success.
The interim total raised is £2,550 (awaiting confirmation of match funding).
