People turned out in large numbers on Saturday 26th November 2022 to enjoy the return of the Cherry Lodge Cancer Care festive Christmas Fair. As in pre-pandemic years, the event was held in St James Church, New Barnet. This warm, welcoming and spacious venue is ideal, providing lots of room for stalls and activities.
The event got off to an excellent start with a very accomplished performance by the choir of St John’s primary school, Frien Barnet, Thank you very much indeed to the children and their choir mistress, Rhianna Finn. There was then lots on offer to keep children entertained, including face painting, a lucky dip, tombola, an activities corner – and a chance to meet Olaf, the snowman from Frozen.
People looking to buy early Christmas presents went home very satisfied. The stalls carried a big range of tempting items, many of them home-made. These included intricately crafted Christmas decorations from Annys and Kim, some very well priced paintings of animals and other subjects, and plenty of things to eat. Guessing the weight of the cake made by Bobbi was quite challenging, but as always it was a lot of fun. Seasonal poinsettias, pampering products, clothing and decorative items for the home all proved popular. Christmas cards and novelty items also sold well on the Cherry Lodge merchandise stall.
The Fair Cafe did a great trade, selling two different soups, hot and cold drinks and a wonderful array of delicious home-made cakes (including a gluten free choice). Tables and comfortable chairs near the cafe made it easy for customers to relax and enjoy the company of friends and other Cherry Lodge supporters.
Many thanks to Tina and her team of volunteers (including Cherry Lodge fundraisers, staff and trustees) who helped to organise and run this event. Among this year’s volunteers were members of BNI Fortune, a business networking group that gives ongoing support to our charity. Most of the Cherry Lodge volunteers were easily recognisable in their bright blue shirts – but one, apparently, came disguised as a snowman!
The 2022 Cherry Lodge Cancer Care Christmas Fair was a very successful, enjoyable and memorable day, with over £2,300 raised. This was truly a very welcome return to our annual calendar.
