Volunteers are hugely important to Cherry Lodge Cancer Care and this fact was recognised at the special Thank You Tea Party held at Howard House on Friday 2nd June 2017. The event was organised by Yvonne Shield, CL’s Volunteer Coordinator, with Margaret, Fiona and Tina also on hand to thank the volunteers.
Without its many volunteer helpers, Cherry Lodge could not provide its much needed information and support services for people affected by cancer. Cherry Lodge volunteers fill a wide range of roles, ranging from A (administrators) to V (van drivers and helpers). Some volunteers help our members directly, by providing therapies or emotional support. Others keep our centre running smoothly, work in our shops or are involved with fundraising. These roles are not, of course, exclusive – some individuals help in several different ways!
As well as being a good excuse to enjoy ‘naughty but nice’ cakes (or healthy fruit), the tea party gave volunteers a welcome opportunity to share experiences with other people in similar or sometimes very different roles. The event seemed to be particularly appreciated by befrienders and others who only rarely have the chance to chat to other volunteers. Those who have been involved at Cherry Lodge for some time enjoyed spotting themselves and old friends in the many onscreen photos (thanks to Fiona).
Cherry Lodge’s Thank You Tea Party took place during Volunteers’ Week, an annual national celebration of the ‘fantastic contribution made by millions of volunteers across the UK’.
Cherry Lodge sends a big THANK YOU TO ALL OUR VOLUNTEERS!
