On 15th October 2016, visitors to The Spires Shopping Centre in Barnet were greeted by a sea of pink. The occasion was Cherry Lodge Cancer Care’s popular Pink Barrow Tombola, which is held each year on an October Saturday to mark national Breast Cancer Awareness month.
In previous years, we have been fortunate to have an authentic market barrow on which to display our tombola items. Unfortunately, this was not possible this year on account of the extensive refurbishment taking place in The Spires. However, two large tables were available instead – and the donation of an eye-catching pink toy wheelbarrow meant that the event was not misnamed!
The weather was surprisingly pleasant for the middle of October and a huge number of people passing through the shopping centre willingly exchanged their pound coins for a chance to win a large selection of pink items – all donated. Some of the happy winners are shown in our photographs, including two very happy youngsters and a couple of Cherry Lodge trustees.
The total sum raised on the day was £288.55. This is a very impressive total, so a very big thank you to all who donated items so generously, to those who painstakingly stuck tickets on the prizes, to those who helped on the day and, last but not least, to those who gave their money to this very important Cherry Lodge fundraising event.
