Cherry Lodge’s Autumn Quiz, held on Saturday 20th September 2016 at Mary Immaculate & St Peter’s Church Hall in New Barnet, proved as popular as ever.
Our regular quiz setters, David and Maureen Southon (see photo 1, below) successfully teased the brains of the eleven teams of eight who gathered together to enjoy the friendly competition. The questions were well chosen across a good range of topics, including nursery rhymes, Britain, prime ministers, opening lines of songs, books, sport, history, and Christmas time. The “What is it?” picture round (see photo 2 below) was particularly intriguing.
Quizzing can be very competitive – but is fun nonetheless. The losing team (photo 5), led by trustee Christine, wished they had managed a better score – especially when they realised that their consolation prize was a pack of toilet rolls! Eve’s winning team (photo 6) were more suitably rewarded for their very impressive collective knowledge.
As well as the quiz, there was a raffle and an excellent supper of fish and chips or a vegetarian alternative.
For all who attended – winners, losers and everyone in between – this Autumn Quiz night was a very enjoyable opportunity to spend time with friends and family while raising funds to support Cherry Lodge’s much appreciated services for people affected by cancer.
A group of volunteers, all looking smart in their Cherry Lodge polo shirts, were on hand to help events coordinator Tina make sure that the evening went with a swing.
Thank you to all of them – and, of course, to our ‘quiz couple’, David and Maureen.
