Staff and volunteers from Cherry Lodge Cancer Care’s Borehamwood shop worked hard to ensure that our charity was well represented at this year’s Borehamwood Families Day. Thank you to Terry Forster (Borehamwood assistant manager, see photo 1 below), shop volunteers Diana Rab, Shirley Kempton, Val Jones and Joan Wise, who manned our tables, and everyone else who helped get things together beforehand and cleared up afterwards.
This popular event, held at Meadow Park on Saturday 2nd July 2016, was was part of Elstree and Borehamwood’s 60th Annual Civic Festival. The weather could have been kinder – but a sizeable crowd still turned out to enjoy the many attractions, including circus acts, live music and a falconry demonstration, and to browse the various charity stalls.
The Cherry Lodge gazebo looked very appealing with its top-quality tombola, guess the name of the teddy bear, and merchandise including sunglasses and jewellery. Fortunately, our gazebo, unlike some others, was not taken by the wind – but the poor weather did mean that our takings were down on previous years. Still, a total of just over £200 is not to be sneezed at – and this event provided a good opportunity to spread the word about Cherry Lodge’s very important information and support services for people affected cancer.
