Despite stormy weather, Summer Soulstice 10, held on Saturday 25th June 2016, was a great success. Barnet’s annual soul festival, which raises a huge amount of money for Cherry Lodge Cancer Care, has gone from strength to strength in the 10 years since a group of Queen Elizabeth’s School Old Boys got together in 2007 to put on a local music festival in memory of their friend Andy Weekes. Summer Soulstice is now well known far beyond Barnet, even outside the UK, and this year’s tickets sold out three weeks ahead of the event.
Detailed information, video interviews and a large general photo gallery for Summer Soulstice 10 have now been posted on the Summer Soulstice website. Here, on the Cherry Lodge website, we are looking at the festival from our own particular point of view. First of all, we offer a huge thank you to the Soulstice crew for their hard work and ongoing support. We will add this year’s total as soon as we know it, but the cumulative sum raised for us in previous years is already in excess of £175,000.
Thank you too to the Cherry Lodge staff and volunteers who helped on the day, all wearing their Cherry Lodge shirts to remind festival goers that the event has a serious side as well as being great fun for all the family and an opportunity to hear some brilliant music. As previously, Cherry Lodge manned the car park, which brought us a very satisfying and immediate £1,634. The Cherry Lodge stall also attracted plenty of attention, as a source of information, a sales point and a place to gather.
This year’s event, attended by more than 4,000 people, was brought to a close with a special, surprise, 10th anniversary, 10-minute firework display (put on by Alchemy Fireworks) – a very impressive ending to a wonderful day!
