Tuesday 3rd November 2015 saw a very lively show presented by artistes of the Brick Lane Music Hall. The venue for this well-attended afternoon event was Ewen Hall in Barnet, where tables for some 130 people had been attractively laid out so that everybody had a good view.
The very colourful show opened with members of the Susi Earnshaw Theatre School singing and dancing to a Beatles selection. Their multicoloured outfits were extremely eye-catching and the students soon got everyone in the mood. The show’s compère, Brian Walker, encouraged the audience, a fair number of whom came from Hadley Lawns Care Home, to sing and dance. Popular tunes included Ballin’ the Jack and Singing the Blues. Michael Topping, Brick Lane’s musical director, accompanied on the piano and sang some old favourites like It Had to be You.
During the interval, tea and cakes were served and there was a chance to socialise. This was followed by singer Linda Watts, who appeared in an elegant, beautiful, sequined blue dress and very fetching necklace. Her Getting to Know You, Anniversary Waltz and at least a dozen other lovely songs received a most enthusiastic reception. This special Remembrance Week event was then brought to a close by a rousing rendition of Land of Hope and Glory.
Many thanks to everyone who appeared in the show, to Penny, who organised the event and to the helpers behind the scenes.
A share of the proceeds from this event is being donated to Cherry Lodge Cancer Care.
