The tcs 2024 London Marathon was held on Sunday 21st April in very good running conditions (fine, bright and up to 12 degrees). With a record entry of more than 50,000, this was another great day for sporting endeavour (at all levels) and fundraising activity (for Cherry Lodge Cancer Care and other charities large and small).
Cherry Lodge Cancer Care directly entered six runners this year – Callum Burns, William Murchison, Joe Patrick, Liam Pratt, Andrew Shoreman, and Artan Taraboshi – and added a seventh – Lucy Lee – who won a place in the ballot and chose to raise funds for us. We thank them all for making such a huge commitment of time, training and sheer physical and mental effort. Very unfortunately, Liam Pratt was not able to take part in the race, having picked up a virus with only a few days to go and being signed off as unfit to run by his doctor. This was obviously a massive disappointment for him, but his fundraising still stands and he will be given a deferred place to run for Cherry Lodge in 2025.
All six of our runners taking part on the day successfully completed the course and achieved excellent results. Fastest was Lucy, who finished on 3.54.06, soon to be followed by our five male runners: William (4.18.52), Artan (4.27.22), Joe (4.27.36), Callum (4.33.54) and Andrew (4.38.14). We send huge congratulations and thanks to them all!
There is still time to sponsor our runners as fundraising pages stay open after events have ended. Clicking on the names in blue in the paragraph above will take you to the runners’ fundraising pages. There, you will find more information about them and can make a simple, safe, online donation to sponsor them. Alternatively, contact a runner to sponsor them directly, or contact Tina by email or call her on 020 8441 7000.
Photographs and more information will be added to our website soon.
