The Summer Fair, held at The Spires on Sunday 1st June this year, is one of Cherry Lodge’s best known fundraising events and, with the weather being wonderful, hundreds of people visited the various stalls. Goods on sale ranged from highly attractive jewellery and beautiful glass objets d’art to a huge assortment of homemade cakes, vast quantities of plants and a good variety of books and DVDs. Action on the well-stocked tombola stall was extremely lively and the bouncy castle proved very popular indeed. The face painting ‘artist’ was in great demand, and after a few hours the Spires was swarming with beautiful butterflies, wasps and bees, adding to the sunny atmosphere.
The Cherry Lodge Singers were in excellent voice and added a certain something special to the event! We were also extremely lucky to to be joined by Pearly King John and Pearly Prince Darren Walters from Finsbury Park (or as my computer insists on typing Funsbury Park) at the Fair. Pearlies, as they have been called since the early 20th century, are well known for raising large amounts for charity – and our two certainly did their bit for Cherry Lodge as they walked around with their collecting tins for some three hours, during which time they collected just short of £100. Many thanks to this particular father and son team for joining us. Overall the Fair raised about £1,900 for Cherry Lodge. Grateful thanks to all helpers, volunteers, and to the many people who visited the Spires.
