As people have now come to expect, Cherry Lodge Cancer Care’s Christmas Market was most definitely a cut above the rest! This year’s event was held on Saturday 1st December 2018 in St James Church, New Barnet, which is a large and very welcoming space.
The entrance fee of 50p for adults included a raffle ticket that gave everyone a chance to win a very tempting festive chocolate basket donated by Rose W. When the draw was made later in the day, the chocolate basket was won by Dilly, a Cherry Lodge member, and a bottle of wine was won by a Cherry Lodge volunteer. Other opportunities for a lucky win were provided by the two tombola stalls – one for adults (photo 3) and one for children (photo 4).
People looking for Christmas presents, or just for a treat, were offered plenty of choice by the good range of stalls, including many craft items, novelties, jewellery, plants, preserves and other edibles. Our photographer perhaps got a bit carried away by her wish to record the amazing cakes on sale at the Market cafe, which also sold soup and was manned by a team of smiling Cherry Lodge volunteers (photos 5 to 8).
Entertainment was provided by the Cherry Lodge Singers, who put on a programme of carols and other seasonal music. There was also an excellent Kids’ Corner with interesting activities to keep the children amused. Face painting was as popular as ever – not to mention Santa in his Grotto!
Among the many people who attended was Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet and a loyal supporter of Cherry Lodge Cancer Care. Thank you to everyone who came to the Market and helped raise money to fund Cherry Lodge’s much needed services.
Thank you also to all the staff and volunteers who worked so very hard, either beforehand or on the day, to put on this excellent event. Finally, thank you to Barclays Bank for their sponsorship.
