On Saturday 13th October 2018, a group from Cherry Lodge Cancer Care joined the North London Autumn 5k in Trent Park, Cockfosters to raise money to help fund CL’s many services for people affected by cancer.
Our participants made a minimum sponsorship pledge of £50 and some of them hope to raise considerably more than this. Several people have set up JustGiving pages (which will stay open for a month after the event) where you can make a donation: Christine Butt; Nicola Harrison; Tina Papasavva; and Gemma Patten
While most of the country had dreadful weather, the gods were kind to our party. Some 20 people – including a trustee, staff, volunteers and members of Cherry Lodge – gathered on a beautiful autumnal morning to enjoy a 5k run/gentle walk. While they all exerted themselves, two specially selected CL bag ladies sat quietly in the cafe looking after people’s luggage! Trent Park was looking beautiful and there was a very happy atmosphere. The only reported hazards were tree roots and spitting runners doing a 10k!
Two dogs had been expected to join the CL group but only one (Peggy) was able to take part. The other (Ella, a retired greyhound) sustained a very painful injury to one of her hind legs earlier in the week. Ahead of the event, one of Ella’s supporters had bought her a bone, which was to have been given to her on completing her walk. Instead, the bone was given to Yvonne, who has by now hopefully given it to Ella!
At the end of their healthy and enjoyable 5k, participants were greeted by smiling marshalls handing out medals, water and sweets. This was followed by a picnic and group photograph. As can be seen from all our photographs, everyone who took part had a truly lovely time.
