We are delighted to report that Amanda and Charlie L. have successfully completed their 50k TrekFest Challenge in aid of Cherry Lodge Cancer Care. Congratulations to them both – 50k (31 miles) is a long way to walk in a day, especially over a hilly moorland route taking in the summit of Kinder Scout (636m; 2,087ft), the highest point in the Peak District National Park.
Amanda and Charlie took on this challenge to raise money in memory of their friend, Nicola Bretherton, who was a member of Cherry Lodge. In Amanda’s words, “Sadly I only had the pleasure of knowing this amazing lady for a few years but boy oh boy what an impact she’s made to my life and the way I look at the world. She was one of the most determined, inspiring people I think I have ever met and she will always have a very special place in my heart.”
Please visit Amanda and Charlie’s JustGiving page to sponsor them as generously as you can and so help fund Cherry Lodge’s information and support services. The sisters’ TrekFest Challenge took place on 1st September 2018 and their fundraising page will stay open for a month after this.
Our featured photograph, right, shows the “morning after the night before”, described as follows by Amanda: “We have packed up our tent, said our goodbyes to some of the fabulous people we had the pleasure to meet and walk with this weekend and had time to get a quick picture before we leave. We didn’t have it in us to do this once we crossed the line last night… We are both incredibly tired and a little bit broken in places but so very proud of our achievement yesterday!! We aimed to finish before 10pm and we crossed the line at 9:15 – 50k in 14hrs 15mins!!! WE are VERY happy with that!!!
