After two weeks of very hard work and long days sometimes not leaving until 8pm the shop was finally finished and my vision fulfilled. When I first joined Cherry Lodge almost two years ago, a shop was something I always hoped Cherry Lodge would one day have. At an away day with Trustees and Staff at the end of April, my idea was put forward and agreed there and then. There was no stopping me and I was soon viewing empty shops in the High Street. An offer was made and three months later we signed on the dotted line. Then the hard work began.
Everyone I approached was very generous giving discounts and donating time and services. Special thanks must go to my husband Lee who worked tirelessly decorating the shop, fitting shelving and going without a balanced meal for two weeks! Also to Lorraine Glen and Kate murphy who are managing the shop, for their energy, enthusiasm and hard work. the shop looks wonderful and I am delighted that my vision has come to fruition and I hope it will not only raise income for Cherry Lodge but also raise the profile and awarenessof the services we offer to those diagnosed with cancer.
Supporters, friends, members, volunteers and the local community visited the first ever Cherry Lodge Charity shop which opened its doors on Saturday 15th August. the first customersthrough the door were welcomed with a glass of bucks fizz to celebrate the opening. Cards, flowers and bottles of wine were among the gifts and good wishes given to the staff at the shop. It wasn’t long before money was being handed over and the rails and shelves needed replenishing. Clothes, shoes, handbags and bric-a-brac as well as the ever-popular books helped raise a fantastic £750 on the first day. If you’ve worn that favourite t-shirt to death or added that pure wool jumper to the hot wash by mistake please don’t throw it away. We can recycle it through our rag recycling and are paid for full bags of unsaleable clothes, shoes, bags and household items.
