The Cherry Lodge Centre was fully reopened on Monday 9th May 2016 on completion of our programme of building work. Thank you to everyone for your patience during what turned out to be a slightly longer closure to members than expected.
We are grateful to Mary Immaculate and St Peter R.C. Church in New Barnet for allowing us to use Church House as a temporary venue for some of our services. Thank you also to Gerson Relocation for storing items for us free of charge during the closure.
Included in this programme of building work were: the installation of a new boiler and overhaul of the central heating system; repairs to windows and the installation of secondary double glazing; treatment of damp in the rear wall; knocking down the wall and installing large, soundproof folding doors between reception and the Andy Weekes room; new flooring on the ground floor and in the kitchen upstairs; a refreshments station in reception; fitting of an information screen; a second handrail on the stairs; new cupboards for storage; some interior redecoration; and a deep clean!
This work has been paid for with money from a legacy by Linda Bagaini, who was a therapist at Cherry Lodge for many years.
Good use has already been made of the large, ground floor space created by removing the wall between reception and the Andy Weekes room. An induction session for volunteers was held at the Centre on 8th May. On the morning of 10th May, members who attended drop-in were able to make good use of the improved facilities. Then, at the AGM and annual talk on the evening of 10th May, all attendees were able, for the first time, to have a clear view of the speakers.
